Vikas Patel, MD is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow, and hand and wrist surgery. With more than 10 years ' of experience, Dr. Patel treats both operative and non-operative conditions, including shoulder and elbow arthritis, rotator cuff tears, labral tears, upper extremity fractures, carpal tunnel, hand and wrist arthritis, and trigger finger. He has expertise in anatomic and reverse shoulder replacements, arthroscopic shoulder surgery, minimally invasive shoulder replacement, elbow replacements, carpal tunnel surgery, and complex revision shoulder and elbow replacements.
Dr. Patel graduated with honors cum laude at the University of Texas with a BS in Biomedical Engineering. He received the prestigious Junior Puccetti Scholarship, and Ann Buckingham Gretzinger, RN and Thomas Gretzinger, MD Scholarship to attend The University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr. Patel also volunteered at the St. Vincent 's House Free Health Clinic, and graduated in the top quartile of his class. Dr. Patel completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Louisiana State University Health Science Center,then completed his fellowship in shoulder and elbow reconstruction under the reputable John Itamura, MD at the esteemed Kerlan-Jobe Institute..
Dr. Patel is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, American Medical Association, and Texas Medical Association. He has been published in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery International, and has several research projects and presentations to his name.
Dr. Patel enjoys traveling the globe and capturing the moment with his wife and children when he is not working, he loves all outdoor activities including hiking, football, golf, basketball, and cooking.
